The only Uluru-facing rooms at Ayers Rock Resort
Desert Gardens sits in the resort's activities hub, its 218 rooms set among native desert gardens rather than open desert. Three room tiers cover different budgets:

Only the Rock View tier faces the monolith, and it's the sole room category anywhere at Ayers Rock Resort with a private Uluru outlook. That makes it worth the jump from the $420 Standard rate if watching sunrise turn the rock red without leaving bed is part of the plan.
What this hotel actually offers after dark
Be clear about what's on offer here. Desert Gardens has no in-room stargazing gear, no glass-roofed viewing deck, no bundled night-sky dinner — none of that appears anywhere in the hotel's own materials, and this review won't invent it. What the hotel does have is location. It sits within walking distance of Resort Town Square, the departure point for Outback Sky Journeys, a telescope-and-storytelling session that leaves an hour after sunset and covers the same Southern Hemisphere sky and Anangu astronomical traditions the resort's pricier properties lean on. From Town Square you can also book Uluru Astro Tours, licensed to operate inside Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park after dark — night access most visitors never get, and by the resort's own account among the clearest skies in Australia. Neither tour is bundled into the room rate; book both separately through the resort's activities desk or direct with the operator.
Rooms, rate, and the rest of the property
Beyond the three room tiers, the hotel runs an unheated outdoor pool, on-site dining, complimentary WiFi, and 24-hour front desk service. Mini-bar and tea/coffee facilities come standard in every room, along with movies-on-demand. None of it is remarkable on its own. The reason to book Desert Gardens over a resort motel elsewhere in Yulara is the Uluru view and the short walk to the tour desk, not the amenities sheet.
Getting there
Ayers Rock Airport is 5 km away, with transfers available on request. The resort's free shuttle covers every facility in Yulara, including the loop out to Town Square, so a rental car isn't necessary if the hotel and its tours are all you're doing.
