If you want traditional Bedouin hospitality in Wadi Rum's protected desert without the resort pricing or engineered glamping, Wadi Rum Nomads offers an alternative rooted in local ownership and back-to-basics philosophy.
Founded and operated by Fawaz Mohammad of the Zalabieh Bedouin tribe—born and raised in the heart of Wadi Rum—the camp is described as "a Bedouin-run company where your money stays local." Unlike the luxury competitors in the area (Memories Camp, Wadi Rum Night Luxury Camp), Wadi Rum Nomads explicitly positions itself against bubble tents and glass igloos. The experience is intentionally basic, back-to-basic, and focused on reconnecting with nature and the desert landscape.
Two Ways to Stay
The camp offers two accommodation styles, both within or near the Wadi Rum Protected Area:
Traditional Bedouin Camp — A secluded camp with traditional-style accommodations in the protected area, designed for the classic desert-under-stars experience.
Bivouac Camping — Remote cave-location camping for those seeking maximum isolation and darkness. A genuinely remote alternative that pushes the back-to-basics philosophy further.
Both options are explicitly designed for sleeping "while gazing at billions of twinkling stars above you" — stargazing is built into the stay itself, not an afterthought.
The Guides
Four guides run the operation: Nawaf, Hamed, Abdullah, and Mohammed. All are related to Fawaz, English-speaking, and described as experienced. They bring lived knowledge of the landscape and stars, not seasonal staff imported from elsewhere.
Darkness and Location
Wadi Rum Protected Area provides naturally low light pollution due to sparse settlement and formal protection. The pale sandstone slopes keep the horizon visible, and the protected designation ensures regulations guard against the competing light sources that hamper uncontrolled areas. From here, Jupiter and Saturn are visible without optical aid.
