Check the Kp forecast before you check in
Fairbanks sits under the auroral oval, but a lodge with the best dome or the darkest sky still won't produce a show on a quiet geomagnetic night. Check the University of Alaska Geophysical Institute's aurora forecast (gi.alaska.edu/monitors/aurora-forecast) for the Kp index and short-term outlook before you commit to dates, then build 3-4 nights around the best-looking window rather than betting on a single night.
