The honest tradeoff: this isn't a dark-sky escape
Being five minutes from an international airport and a few minutes from downtown Fairbanks means Pike's carries more ambient skyglow than the region's remote lodges. This is not a place to chase a truly dark sky; it's a place to watch a strong aurora display comfortably and cheaply. If geomagnetic activity is high (Kp 5 or above), the Conservatory's north-facing glass shows it fine.
